Who was the founder of Christianity, was it Jesus himself or was it Paul the Apostle as many believe? Why are there so many divisions that fall under the umbrella that calls itself Christianity? These are but a few interesting questions involved in researching an immense topic such as this. This paper will discuss the holy book used by the Christians and the many holidays celebrated through out the year in addition to the above-mentioned subjects. Christianity is such a large topic it is difficult to compile such a minute synopsis. The Founder of Christianity Was it Jesus who founded Christianity or was it Paul the Apostle? Two opinions were found in answer to this topic both Jesus and Paul are mentioned as founders of the faith. The following data, “Jesus was not the founder of Christianity as we know it today. Most of the New Testament doesn't even concern the historical Jesus while the main influence is the Apostle Paul and a Greek convert named John” (Maccoby,) is but one opinion relating to the belief that Paul is the founder. Paul was born around the same time as Christ and was the author of the following books in the New Testament: Romans 1st & 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians 1st & 2nd, Thessalonians 1st & 2nd, Timothy, Titus and Philemon. (Miles, 2002) “In about AD33, Saul was on the road to Damascus. On the way, he was blinded by a vision, and heard a voice asking, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” and the voice answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting….In his second missionary journey, Paul revisited the churches he had established in Asia Minor, strengthening the faith of the new converts.” (Anderson, 2003) Although Paul seems to have been a steady figure in the creation of the church, it was Jesus whom he was creating for.
