Illusions

“Illusionists” There are times in life when it is necessary to conceal, stretch, or deny the truth. When times like this occur, how will you know the difference between the truth and a lie? A good illusionist deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. In Russell Bank’s novel “The Sweet Hereafter,” Mitchell Stephens and Nichole Burnell use their expertise at optical illusions to make their vision of the truth become a reality. The story revolves around a school bus accident that kills several children in the small town of Sam Dent. Mitchell is a big city lawyer who comes to town hoping to save the day for some helpless victims and pick up some momentum to go on in his own tense life. Nichole takes everyone by surprise when she survives the horrific accident and destroys any hope for the victims’ families of collecting a financial settlement after the disaster.
