Medieval Time Period

The Medieval time period is an era of unique culture and has many aspects in it, which makes it so different. According to Encarta 2000, culture is the patterns of behavior and thinking that people living in social groups learn, create, and share. Epics and romances prove extremely helpful in understanding the Middle Age culture. First Knight and Cheverfoil showed why courtly love had great significance in the culture of the Middle Ages. Also, Song of Roland and First Knight unveils how personal honor played an important part of the Middle Age culture. These two parts of culture will help understand the life style and environment of the Middle Ages and why certain traditions exist today. First, courtly love is when a knight loves an unattainable woman and takes many risks and does heroic deeds to prove him to her. Courtly love is displayed in the movie, “First Knight” where Lancelot, being a mere commoner tries to obtain the love of Guinevere, the Lady of Leoness.
