my reflective journal
As stated in the text, one important behavior for managers is to motivate employees. When I previously worked at the Bank of Montreal I noted that every week management and employees would gather together with our own personal assessments, which we were to do daily, to discuss together goals we have reached and/or attempting to reach. A card was given to an “employee of the week” noting an achievement he/she has reached that week. Employees were given recognition for their achievements and motivate each other to reach their goals. Skills important to a manager include conceptual skills, human skills, technical skills and political skills. It is important to be able to coordinate the organization’s interests activities, for example, when I previously worked at a restaurant, one of the managers where fired due to conflicting issues between how the manager wanted to run the restaurant and how the owner wanted it to be run.
