In 1938 America signed an Act that banned child labor and set the maximum workweek at 44 hours, and along with this came the Federal Minimum Wage (Making Wages Work). All of this came from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), signed by President Roosevelt, which set the minimum wage at 25 cents per hour ($2.96 in 1999 dollars) (Minimum wage laws). Minimum wage can be giving to both federal and state, and in some states the state wage is lower than the federal.
