Summary for Ella Minnow Pea

The Freedom to Communicate Freedom is an idea that is the subject of many books, stories, articles, essays and other various means of expression. In the novel, Ella Minnow Pea, freedom is linked with peoples' ability to communicate with each other. What is interesting is the author's approach to this concept. Dunn involves the reader in a first-hand experience of what the islander's are subjected to as he bans letters from the dialogue of the community as well as his own vocabulary. The result is a story that is told both in it's plot, and it's delivery. Ella Minnow Pea has more than one protagonist. All the characters in the story (with the exception of one) are part of a community that lives on an island country called Nollop.
