The notions of laboratory testing and field testing of fitness components fall under four headings: „h Identifying specific attributes: Fitness tests results indicate specific personal attributes that the athlete and coach can use to help determine the types of sports in which the athlete is best suited. „h Identifying strengths and weaknesses: Fitness tests identify an individuals strengths and weaknesses for a particular sport or activity. This then helps in designing a specific training program. „h Monitoring progress: Fitness testing should be taken at regular intervals so the coach and athlete can evaluate the effectiveness of the training program. „h Providing motivation and incentive: Fitness tests can outline specific attributes, strengths and weaknesses.
