Othello turns evil One may contemplate evilness in two ways: those who are evil and those who are not. We never think about how people become evil, we just assume that they were born that way; that they are already tainted from day one to be so heinous because what could drive a person to commit such acts of evil? In the tragedy of Othello, Shakespeare explores how evilness transcends into a good man, proving that any human being is susceptible to such change. One would never guess that Othello would be a murderer in this play. It is so hard for us to grasp that Othello is capable of such horrible acts because we are bombarded by his peers constantly speaking of Othello being an honorable and noble man. ... It seems strange that a man who is believed to drive Othello to his evil ways can speak so kindly of his prey. But Iago’s purpose in the play is proving that influence can be a danger to any weak man, thus being Othello. Othello made the choice to strangle his wife, no one else. ... Othello ultimately deserves all the blame in the world. ... Iago’s manipulation in the play exemplifies how a good, honest human being can become influenced to sink low in the depths of evil. ... It’s unfortunate that Othello let Iago’s whispering drive him mad, but he simply turned out to be the type of man to allow the suggestions to affect him.
