Introduction In this report it will be shown that there is an observable difference in the rate at which water samples of different temperatures freeze. The common notion is such that hot water will take longer to freeze than the cold water. The belief here is that hot water must first cool to the temperature of the cold water then cool further to freezing following the same observable rate as the cold water sample. ... It remains, however, arguable as to which sample does in fact reach the freezing point first. Many variables contribute to this, not the least of which being the contents of the water samples beyond H2O and the containers used for the samples during the freezing process (Kell1969). This analysis seeks only to observe the rates at which the samples freeze and does not explore the question of which sample freezes first.
