Telenovela's producers seem to know that our society is hungry for entertainment, especially in these difficult times. Going out in search of entertainment definitely requires extra money, so a "cheap" alternative is to watch TV at home, where all members of the family can get together without having to pay for anything except the electricity and monthly contribution. People need entertainment for many reasons.
