Beowulfs heroism
Beowulf The theme of heroism provides a basis for comparing Christ in “Dream of the Rood” to Beowulf in Beowulf. In Anglo-Saxon times, when these poems were written, loyalty, bravery, strength, and sacrifice were all qualities of heroism. These qualities are also important in the meaning of heroism today. However, when these poems were written, heroism was more battle oriented, and often heroes were not recognized until after their death. Today we have moved away from the fighting aspect of heroism and moved towards helping others through bravery, courage, and sacrifice. ... Heroism, whether in Anglo-Saxon or modern times, requires individual acts of loyalty, bravery, strength, and sacrifice.
