The transition from secondary study to university study is a process confronted by all students and is considered very important. Some of the aspects new students have to learn to deal with while studying at university are the teaching styles of the classrooms to lectures and tutorials, having to make new friends and cope with the greater work load which was expected, the need for money by working and to fit time in for family and social life. This essay will examine those issues confronted by first year university students and why they are important. The transition from classrooms to lectures is one of the greatest issues students new to university study are confronted with. ... But this soon has to change when the student goes to university, because the lecture will not come up to you and say, “do you understand? ... This is something students new to university learning have to get used to, to start to learn by your self, due to the limited help given by the lectures. This can be especially hard for the student if they have been babied their whole way though secondary school. Another problem confronted by student is that in secondary school if a student fails an assessment task; there is always a safety net, which allows the student to have a redemption task to get a pass.
