Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex Oedipus Rex tells the story of King Oedipus’ fate. Oedipus’ fall from his kingly status was not by accident, but from the cruel web of destiny he could not escape. Oedipus’ character traits are shown most clearly during his downfall. King Oedipus begins the story thinking he is “a simple man, clueless to the topic at hand”, yet knowing more than he realizes by the end of the story. When Oedipus solved the riddle of Sphinx, rescuing Thebes from a terrible plague, Oedipus was offered the status of King. Oedipus is the cause of a second plague placed upon Thebes.
