Jefferson Davis, the first and only President of the Confederacy. When you talk about Jefferson Davis you often end up asking yourself a question. Was Jefferson Davis a great leader or was he the cause of the Confederacy’s Defeat? ... I arrived at this by looking at three things; the South in general, Davis’s relationship with his generals, and his leadership style.
First let’s look at why Jefferson Davis was elected the first and only President of the Confederate States of America. ... Jefferson Davis was born in 1808, in Christian County, Kentucky. ... Davis also played favorites among his generals and would even “unduly” get in the way in the military plans#.
Davis even had problems with his most trusted general Robert E. ... Historian Stephen Woodworth, says that failures of Davis and of his military leaders in the west gave way for Confederate defeat#.
