Gram positive bacteria will grow on the CNA blood plate, and gram negative bacteria will grow on the MacConkey plate. The results of each test will determine which test should be done next by exhibiting a defining characteristic of a particular strain of bacteria while eliminating others by the absence of the same characteristic.
