Pollution Prevention has grown throughout the years and has had many positive effects, but there is still much more pollution that needs to be stopped before there is nothing left to be protected. ... The first real sign that America was going to address the problem of pollution was around 1970. ... This Act helped open many people open there eyes to the realities of pollution. ... This program gave special emphasis to strengthen federal programs for dealing with water and air pollution (1). To help all address all of the problems of the environment, and to set standards, regulations, and conduct environmental research to help address all the issues of pollution, President Richard Nixon created the EPA to protect the environment and public health. ... ” Richard Nixon, 1970
There are many major environmental laws that help form, or were formed by American political culture: The Clean Air Act (CAA) in 1970; The Clean Water Act (CWA) in 1977; The Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 1973; The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) in 1972; The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in 1996; The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA); The Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) in 1990; The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in 1976; The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in 1974; and The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) in 1976.
