Linkage
Linkage happens when two loci are on the same chromosome, this occurs because the number of genes exceeds the number of chromosomes. During gamete formation, the alleles of different genes segregate independently. Meiotic mapping in haploids can determine the genotypes of the gametes. ` Since it is easy to find and analyze yeast cells, it is a preferred organism for genetic studies. Its simple life cycle, alternating haploid and diploid stages, and easy to identify products makes yeast a tool to take a closer look at linkage and meiotic mapping.
