Motivation Theories of Abraham Maslow and Clayton Alderfer
Introduction This assignment will briefly compare the motivation theories of Abraham Maslow and Clayton Alderfer, I will evaluate these theories and then apply the theory that agree with my personal motivation and character and if they are being used in the workplace. Maslow Maslow’s motivation theory is based on the belief that people are not merely controlled by mechanical forces or unconscious instinctual impulses of psychoanalysis, but should be understood in term of human potential. ... Maslow set up a hierarchical theory of needs in a pyramid where physical needs are placed at the bottom and human needs at the top. ... Maslow describes this person’s need to be and do that which a person was born to do. Alderfer Alderfer’s theory is similar to Maslow’s theory but differs in three basic components. Alderfer does not share the belief of the hierarchy of needs but has a similar ERG theory, Existence needs, Relatedness Needs and Growth Needs.
