Critical Success Factors in Information System Implementation Information System and Economic Progress The transformation of the industrial economy to a service economy had made information systems a key player and an important resource of a firm. Information system is the transformation of data based on which important decisions are made. It includes hardware and software to convert raw data into information. Information systems are relied upon not only by the business world but consumers; governments, social institutions and universities use them for educational purposes. The arrival of the Internet and the soaring power of Technology have made information systems a major part of the global economic growth. As it was stated in the Journal of Global Information Technology Management “The evolution of the Internet as pervasive phenomenon means that the traditional factors of production- capital and labor- are no longer the main determinants of an economy’s power (Mandel and Kunii, 1999). Instead of being dependent on capital and labor, the economic potential of countries world wide becomes more and more linked to their ability to control and manipulate information in the era of the Internet” (Anonymous, 2002).
