Women's Liberation
Fueled by the discontentment produced by the generation gap, women in the late 1960s participated in several activities and used many tactics in search for a better life. They sought respect, decency, and fairness. They knew that the only way they could achieve this was social reform. As a first step towards women’s liberation, many women participated in an organizational form called consciousness raising (CR). Women got together in small groups and completed four processes including opening up, sharing, analyzing, and abstracting. They would sit in a circle and each woman would have a turn to speak. Everyone had a chance to be heard by sharing their experiences and problems. It helped women just to know that someone was listening to them and not ridiculing. Women found out that they were not alone.
