Outcasts
In literature, certain characters can be classified as either an “insider” or an “outsider”. These “outsiders” mainly seek acceptance from the “insiders” the majority of the story. The “insiders” sometimes might support this, and befriend the “outcast”, or might totally disregard the outsider’s wants. Three characters can help represent this style of writing. Some examples of outsiders in the novels could be Boo Radley from To Kill A Mockingbird, Piggy from the novel Lord of the Flies, and Tom Robinson from To Kill A Mockingbird. Boo Radley, from To Kill a Mockingbird, is an outsider because he does not like to have a relationship with the outside world. Because of his unmentionable (to the public) past, he feels he cannot accepted by the town of Maycomb. His reputation after the jail incident suddenly lowered, and the society, and society, as a result deemed his status to be low as well.
