When Jesus Christ was placed on the cross for his crucifixion, was he defeated or destroyed? When his enemies had dug nails through his hands into the wood of the cross, made him suffer along with other criminals as though he was an offender or convict, and had tortured him until he had died, was he defeated or destroyed? This does appear to be an example of someone in the process of being defeated. However, a man can never be conquered. A man, who observes and has his own opinion about life, someone who has his own motivation, someone who has his own beliefs, can never be defeated. However, a man can be destroyed. Jesus Christ was destroyed. ... As the old man, Santiago, said, “A man is not made for defeat” (103).
