Eric Patrick Clapton or more commonly known as just Eric Clapton was born on March 30th 1945 in Ripley, England. Clapton was born in his grandparents house at 1, The Green, Ripley, Surrey, England. His mother, Patricia Molly Clapton and his father Edward Fryer were not married and therefore Clapton was an illegitimate son. After the Second World War, Eric’s father, Edward, returned to Canada to his actual wife, whereas his mother left him in the custody of his grandparents Rose and Jack Clapp. ...
Clapton is described to be a “quiet and polite boy with a special aptitude for art” by his grandparents who raised him to believe that they were his real parents and that his mother was his sister. ... Surprisingly however, Eric and his mother still acted as brother and sister around each other when Eric went and visited her.
When Eric was a teenager, he tuned into a Jerry Lewis appearance on television and that was a turning point in his life as it opened up his mind and motivated him. Lewis’s energetic performance, accompanied by Eric’s growing love for blues and North American R&B encouraged young Eric to pursue playing the guitar. In attempt to do so, Eric enrolled at the Kingston College of Art.
