I am a distance coach and currently training a group athletes, age ranging 14-15 year old. I am curently training them for the National Schools Cross Country Championships. To perform well in this championships it is not sufficient just to train the team of young athletes physically through a high intensity training programme. The training programme should also involve the psychological skills aspect. The areas that I will concentrate for the psychological skills training component of my training programme include the following:
· Goal Setting- Stress Management
· Self-Confidence
· Patience
· Overcoming pain and sickness as barriers to training
· Communication
· Motivation
