Closely watched trains
The title of this movie, Closely Watched Trains, refers to German trains that were given priority passage through occupied Czechoslovakia to carry munitions and troops during World War II. At first, the audience may not see any relation between the title and the sleepy station which trains nearly always skip as a stop. ... The last train is indeed closely watched, and this ultimately leads to both the tragic end of Milos, the main character, and also the end of the many forms of passive resistance we see throughout the movie. ... As mentioned in class, and through examples in the movie, Closely Watched Trains, not only deals with the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia but also the oppression of the time by the Soviets.
