What Society Expects of its Prisons
Although many can argue over specific programs or policies or procedures, there are some general expectations that society has regarding prisons. ... Society would like to believe that the prison system is set up in such a manner that provides for the prisoner to become rehabilitated while incarcerated. Since most people in prison eventually do come back out on the streets, society would like to think prison has changed them and whatever that person did wrong to go to prison, they of course would not even consider committing that same act (or worse) when released. Most of society believes the prisoner should be taking advantage of the opportunities given to them while they are in prison.
