In Laredo, we don’t have many places to have a good time with our families. ... Unfortunately, the Border Patrol is now asking people for a proof of residency or citizenship. I strongly believe that Border Patrol should not check for documents at the Mall, for this is a public place, people have the right to enjoy their time with their family, and Border Patrol should work at the root of the problem. ... It is not fair for these people to be bothered by Border Patrol agents while they are not doing anything against the law. ... Without documents to prove their legal residency and without speaking English, Border Patrol agents might conclude that these people are illegally in United States and take them out of the Mall. The situation may be solved later, when the Border Patrol agents take the person to his/her house to make sure that they indeed have the legal documentation to live in United States.
