Saddam Hussein
The United States should oust Saddam Hussein before he has the chance to cause massive damage to the U.S. or his own country. Since 1998, when inspectors were banned, the weapons from the Gulf War remaining were saved and could be used in the present. He has uncovered the knowledge and equipment to make weapons of mass destruction. Hussein has also done many things to harm not only the United States, but also his own country.
After Saddam banned inspectors from his country, the weapons that remained were saved and could be used presently. It all started after the Gulf War, Saddam had many stockpiles of deadly unused weapons and the U.N. was fearful that he would use these weapons. "The U.N. imposed economic sanctions on Iraq that would be enforced until the country eliminated all nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons capability." (Kirk) Two groups were formed to take care of disassembling the different kinds of weapons. UNSCOM was formed to take care of chemical and biological weapons, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which was in charge of dismantling Iraq's concealed nuclear program. "From 1991 to 1998 UNSCOM and IAEA carried out numerous inspections in Iraq, but with varying degrees of success. For the first few years, Iraqi officials failed to disclose much of their special weapons programs to the inspectors." (Kirk) In 1995, Kamel Hussein, Saddam's son-in-law, revealed to UNSCOM that there were many weapons that Iraq had been hiding. This helped UNSCOM to discover many of the hidden weapons but it was too late because in December of 1998, Saddam blocked all access and expelled UNSCOM from the country. Saddam Hussein has refused to let any inspectors from the United Nations come into his country and search for any means of biological, chemical, or nuclear weapons since 1998.
