Avicenna Avicenna (also known as Abu Ali al-Husain ibn Abdallah ibn Sina) was Persian and was born in what is now Uzbekistan in 980. He died in Persia in 1037. He was a famous philosopher and physician. He was so important people compared him to Galen. Avicenna was famous because he wrote over 200 books, including the famous Canon (medical code), which taught existing medical knowledge as well as new.
