Rate of reaction between sodium thiosulfate and hydrochloric acid
Introduction I am going to investigate how the concentration of sodium thiosulfate affects the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate. This is the symbol equation for the reaction: Na S O + 2HCl 2NaCl + SO +H O + S I predict that the lower the concentration of the sodium thiosulfate, the slower the rate of reaction will be. This is because there will be less sodium thiosulfate particles in the hydrochloric acid, so less successful collisions will be made. I also think that the concentration will be directly proportional to the rate. A previous experiment I have done in class to prove the same thing is the reaction between HCl and CaCO , timing how long it took to produce 25cm of CO . As the concentration decreased here, the rate of reaction increased and was directly proportional to rate. ... ) The reactants are 30cm HCl each time, and the relevant concentration of sodium thiosulfate.
