For Taiwan, joining the World Trade Organization is an acknowledgement that Taiwan is a separate entity from China. Even with Taiwan's membership however, China still wants to regard Taiwan as a part of China, just like Hong Kong and intends to settle trade disbutes informally. This may hurt the WTO's credibility due to the different points of view from the two sides where China may not follow the WTO's ruling if Taiwan ever takes a dispute to the settlement board.
