Theory

Throughout these past few weeks we have taken a piece of scholarly writing and looked at from three different views using conceptual primitives, etymology analysis, and historical analysis. As you read you will see what those three types of concepts are and how you can use them in everyday writing. Lets see how his theory works by applying it to The Mystic Road of Love by John S. Dune (University of Notre Dame). Dune gives his feelings about spirituality and love. I chose this paragraph because I think it is very important to have a loving connection with someone and I’m sure at least once in your lifetime you will love someone or have trouble letting yourself go to fully love whether it is spiritually or physically. “I seem unable to be caught up in love, unable to be carried away with love, and yet the love is there, “our heart is restless until it rests in you” is true for me. To love with all my heart is to love with all the restless energy of my heart, and that is an unknowing love until it becomes knowing by finding expression. To love with all my soul is to bring my heart to rest in God, something that seems to happen when I am in my center. “We all have within us a center of stillness surrounded by silence” is true for me too. And how come to the center? The way is to love with all my mind, to gather my wits, to recollect emotion in tranquility, to remember God. But I still don’t know how to love with all my might, to love with my body, to dance before the Lord with all my might, to lose myself and be carried away, to walk on the way of forgetting”. Anna Wierzbika came up with a concept called conceptual primitives. She says that we can take any piece of writing and put it into the simplest of terms. Lets see how his theory works by applying it my paragraph. Dune states, “I don’t know how to love with all my might, to lose myself and be carried away”.
