A Response To:
“The War on Civil Liberties”
From the New York Times, September 10, 2002 Issue
The article “The War on Civil Liberties,” from the New York Times on September 10, 2002, is all about the effects of 9/11 on our civil liberties. ... I think that the part of this article that really catches the reader’s attention is the fourth paragraph: “When we are afraid, as we have all been this year, civil liberties can seem abstract. But they are at the core of what separates this country from nearly all others; they are what we are defending when we go to war. ... It makes you think about your civil liberties and how they might have been infringed on since 9/11. ... It gets the reader a little riled up about what they have read and makes the reader think, is this happening to my civil liberties? ... Although, some people who read this and think about it might not feel that their civil liberties have been rolled back, it will make them more aware and observant. ... The author should have written more on TIPS and how it would have affected our country, civil liberties, and civil rights. ... The writer could write about how it’s really a “war on the government”.
