Health care system comparisons in the U S and Iceland
Health care delivery systems through out the world vary from country to country. While there are many countries, with almost as many health care delivery systems, this paper will be focusing on the United States and Iceland. We will be looking at the health care delivery system, how it is supported, how citizens get access to health care, what the major health care issues are, what the major challenges these countries face for the future, and how these countries conduct and pay for their medical research. The health care delivery system, how it is supported, and how citizens get access to health care (Q1, 2, &5): United States: The United States’ health care delivery system runs on a fee for service system. In this system coverage varies, through private insurance coverage, provided by employers or state and federal run programs designed for those with low or nonexistent incomes. ... The Untied States’ system allows for anyone to receive hospital care, meaning no one is turned away, however if the individual has no private or “welfare” insurance they must pay for services out of pocket. ... This system is supported by payments from employers and employees as well as by taxes for the Medicaid, or welfare insurance, and Medicare, for retired citizens. ... ” Iceland Iceland’s health care delivery system is a federally funded. The Ministry of Health and Social Security is responsible for the overall administration of these benefits. “The health sector is regulated according to the Health Service Act of 1990 by which all inhabitants have right of access to the best possible health service at any given time for the protection of their mental, social and physical health. ... In Iceland health care includes all types of coverage such as health surveillance, medical research, and medical treatment and care and nursing in hospitals, medical rehabilitation, dentistry and patient transport.
