compare and contrast
Compare and Contrast History by definition is a chronological record of events, as of the life or development of a people or institution, often including an explanation of or commentary on those events. In the essays written by Edward Carr and Frances Fitzgarald they, both explain why they think that history books are always being rewritten. While Carr and Fitzgarald’s essays are very similar, they are also very different. Edward Carr wrote, “The Historian and His Facts.” His essay explains his theory that the historian and how the historian perceived the event write history. Considering that everyone has different opinions on how events take place, there are many different sides to each specific event. Carr gives the example of Caesar crossed the Rubicon. He states, “ It is the historian who has decided for his own reason that Caesar’s crossing of that petty stream, the Rubicon, is in fact history, whereas the crossing of the Rubicon by millions of others before or since interests nobody at all.” Caesar was a leader crossing into another town as an act of war.
