Analysis of Gateway Incorporated The reason for choosing Gateway Incorporated was that Gateway computers can be seen all through out the campus in computer labs and a majority of the students own one. This report is comprised of the research and analysis of the financial statements of Gateway Incorporated for the fiscal year of 2000-2001. Gateway Incorporated is a Fortune 500 Company founded in 1985, in an Iowa farmhouse by Ted Waitt, now chairman president and CEO, and business partner Mike Hammond, senior ice President of operations. Gateway was founded to offer customers an option rather than the expensive, limited choices and inadequate support, which was common in the market at that time. In Gateway’s first four months of operations, the company generated sales of $100,000. Gateway became a publicly traded company in December of 1993 on the NASDAQ market under the symbol GATE. On May 22, 1997, Gateway began to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GTW. April 24, 1998, Gateway was added to Standard & Poor’s S&P 500 Index.
