While some of the basic tenants of the Olympian gods is consistent from one work to the next, there are obvious differences in the treatment of the gods in Homer’s and Aeschylus’ style. The similarities between Homer’s Olympian gods and Aeschylus’ are fairly obvious. They both show the gods/goddesses as human-like deities, with human traits and characteristics. The gods/goddesses have favorites, and play favor with one another on behalf of their chosen cities, peoples, or characters. Both The Iliad and Agamemnon hold the Olympic gods with a great deal of reverence. ... Both show their characters wanting to appease the gods. These similarities seem to define the Olympic gods and set some of the parameters for their treatment in the works.
