Comparison of Printed and Movie Versions of Slaughterhouse Five

The film version of Slaughterhouse V is in many regards faithful to the book, while it diverges from its printed counterpart in many ways. ... For example, we only learn of Edgar Derby’s death in the movie when he actually dies, while in the text, we learn that Pilgrim already knows this the moment he meets Derby, or the anonymous execution seen on film, which we know in the text is a polish prisoner. ... Kilgore Trout, who does make an appearance in the book, never appears in the movie, possibly to make the movie more serious and Billy taken more seriously. Montana Wildhack, who is only seen briefly in the book, is seen more often in the movie, beginning with her starring in a drive-in movie, which shows the audience that Billy has a connection to her that is not so apparent in the book.
