Evil in Jack
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the theme "evil is inherent in the human mind itself whatever innocence may cloak it," is evident throughout. When this theme comes to mind, Jack is the most relevant character to it. Three main points to prove that this is an evident theme are Jack’s relationship with others, democracy vs. ... Jack’s relationship with others is a good representation of this theme. First, Jack has no real relationship with the others; he is mean to everyone, especially to Piggy. ... " Jack had meant to leave him in doubt, as an assertion of power; but Piggy by advertising his omission made more cruelty necessary. ... 92) This quote shows just how mean Jack is to the others he refused to give Piggy meat because he didn’t help him hunt it, although neither did Ralph, or Simon. Second, Jack is mean to all of the boys; he always demands that hunting come first, nothing else matters to him. ... The twins got knocked over -------" "We hit the pig------" " ---I fell on top -----" "I cut the pigs throat," said Jack, proudly, and yet twitched as he said it. ... "There was lashing of blood," said Jack, laughing and shuddering, "you should have seen it! ... 87) This quote shows that hunting means everything to Jack, he doesn’t care that he let the fire out, he sees the fire as a way to cook the meat that he catches instead of a way of rescue. Third, Jack says that his tribe is fun, and that they’ll never go hungry. ... “I gave you food,” said Jack, “and my hunters will protect you from the beast. ... ” shouted Jack. ... ” Jack ignored him again. ... 185 - 186) This quote shows that his tribe revolves mostly around hunting, Jack is trying to change the boys views of fun.
