This arrticle also emphasizes the imporance of films to help people escape from reality during the Great Depression, and the rise of an idustry that has dominated the economy for more than two decades. Not even the Great Depression could stop millions of people from storming into the theaters each week to forget reality for one to two hours. Klein emphasizes that with the economy hitting rock bottom, the film industry was soon labeled as the "dream factory."(157) Films became the fantasy world of a nation in total chaos and pain.
