Fixed or Loose Canon
Until there is a universal agreement on whether to implement a ‘fixed’ or ‘loose’ canon in the school curriculum, it is difficult to accurately teach ‘Liberty’. ... ’ In relating all of these various views to the difficult task of choosing a canon for education, Barber is against Ravitch’s theory that the canon should be fixed and only focused on the commonality and culture we have in common. Instead, Barber would recognize the similarities found with Hilliard’s theories in terms of pluralizing the canon and exploring the whole truth of our various cultures throughout history.
