Having Achieved a Higher Education Has Not Allowed Mel to Achieve a Higher Understanding of Love
In Raymond Carvers "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love," we hear Mel, a cardiologist, who once studied for the priesthood, describe what he believes is love. But as we reflect upon what Mel tells us about love we realize that Mel seems to understand love considerably less than what he leads us to believe he does. How has Mels experience, as a seminarian, affected his understanding of love? As a priest Mel would have been required to live a life of celibacy. Priests are called to love inclusively, meaning that they must share their love with all those they meet.
