The Case for Marriage: A deeper look into cohabitation before marriage The Case for Marriage, written by Linda J. Waite and Maggie Gallagher, reports on the research findings found in both the common issues and the legal issues of marriage. I chose to read and report on The Case for Marriage based on the assumption that the written work was written with a background founded in research. To my satisfaction, I found the research presented in this book to be both accurate and compelling in fighting the cause for marriage. The Case for Marriage rose strong arguments against the practice of cohabitation before marriage. Cohabitation was shown to negatively affect families in the areas of parenthood, sexual fidelity, and divorce. Cohabitation: parenthood Waite and Gallagher used their research to document the damaging effects cohabitation has on a family when cohabitors are involved in parenthood premaritaly. The research and findings presented in the book paralleled to the court case of Douglas vs. ... Grant was a case heard on February 28, 2003 in Commissioner Patton’s domestic relations court at the Utah Fourth Judicial District Court. The Case for Marriage made it very clear to the reader that over one-fourth of cohabiting women experience the birth of a child while out of marriage.
