In the video, Legal and Ethical Dilemmas of Current Clinical Practice, Part 1: The Impact of Economic Pressures, the panel discussed the critical ethical and legal challenges currently faced by physicians in our health care market. The concern is primarily that recent reimbursement procedures and contracts from managed care organizations could possibly limit care. This is a serious issue for both the patient and the health care profession as a whole. To begin with, some patients have no choice in what insurance plan that they receive from their employer. These individuals are fraught with the consequences of their employer’s choice of health care plans. Those that do have choices in selecting a particular plan from their employer may not have the appropriate knowledge base to make an informed and educated decision to meet the health care requirements for themselves or their families.
