Race and Education

Race and education are two things that seem to have a very large affect on each other. Race affects education because it affects the way that children are taught and the material that they are taught. Education affects race by teaching children what is in the textbooks, and whether it is biased information or not. Ideally, race would not affect education at all, and likewise, education would not affect race. ... Mary Louis Pratt speaks about the different contact zones that exist in education. ... Pratt and Hooks seem to be more focused on improving education for all cultures and America as a whole, while Hooks seems to be working more toward improving education for minorities. Pratt and Hirsch want to make education better for minorities, but they seem to be focused on the bigger picture of education as a whole. ... No matter what the ideas, Hirsch, Pratt, and Hooks all understand that there are problems with the contact zones, and race and education do affect each other. ... ” This is one way that education has an effect on race. ...
