How does a speaker work

... Each of those electronic devices contains a technology that produces sound, know as a speaker. But, how does a speaker work? Besides the metal frame holding its pieces together, a speaker is made up of three components: a magnet, a voice coil, and a cone. The magnet is the base of the speaker, and is only attached to the metal frame. The voice coil is sealed to the small opening in the bottom of the cone and the large opening is attached to the speaker’s metal frame, with the voice coil suspended closely above the magnet, but not touching it. Three things occur for a speaker to produce sound: an electrical signal is sent to the speaker, the speaker’s voice coil receives the signal and becomes an electromagnet, and the electromagnet pushes or pulls on the speaker’s cone.
