Black Rights Movements In the late 50s, African Americans began organizing to take own action against racial segregation and dscrimination.Their efforts significantly advanced the civil rights movement. The Civil Rights Act of 1957 created a Civil Rights Commission and empowered the Justice Departement to go to court in cases where blacks were denied the right to vote.
