This environment that you have grown to love may be the cause of skin cancer, tumors, and radiation poisoning. Thesis and Preview: Ozone depletion is causing increased concern for the health of future Americans. It is slowly changing the way people live their lives. Prolonged exposure in the sun’s ultraviolet rays has three main effects. The first and most deadly effect is skin cancer; the second can cause potential eye damage, and finally the possibility of causing gastrointestinal nausea/immune system problems. Background: There are immense amounts of CFC’s or (chlorofluorocarbons) released in the air, which are induced by man, that come from factories. These CFC’s are the cause of the diminishing ozone layer. The ozone layer is a protective coat that covers the earth, almost like a filter that distills water. This layer stops most of the sun’s penetrative and potentially deadly ultraviolet rays from hitting the earth.
