Inherit The Wind Inherit the Wind, by Robert E. Lee interprets the events of a trial where a teacher, Bertram Cates, was convicted of lecturing to his students the theory of evolution. Henry Drummond defends Bert Cates against the prosecution, led by Mathew Brady, a presidential candidate and old friend who is very well known. Drummond stands up for people, even when others won't. He respects Brady, even though they are no longer friends, and he works very well under pressure. Mr. Drummond may seem like a curmudgeon at first, but in this book, he is portrayed as a hero When Cates was first put on trial, nobody wanted to defend him. Drummond defended Cates when nobody else would. "It's the loneliest feeling in the world-to find yourself standing up when everybody else is sitting down.
