On "Beast in the Jungle"

James builds his narrative in six numbered chapters. Each chapter contains an event. The first five of these events take place in dialogue between John and May. May is dead at the end. Nevertheless, John still feels her presences. This story has many dialogs. Through these dialogs, the author represents the two main character's thoughts and their characteristics to the readers. The dialogs in whole article are sometimes very puzzling. Readers often need to guess the meanings behind it. In several places, James uses the weather to reflect main characters' moods and feelings. "It was in the way the autumn day looked into the high windows as it waned; the way the red light, breaking at the close from under a low somber sky..."(James 3). The citation tells readers that Marcher feels lonely. He is gloomy, not very happy at all.
